The Food Pantry of Jeff Davis County (the Pantry) alleviates hunger and promotes healthy eating for residents in need. We do this by providing healthy supplemental food (twice monthly), school lunch foods to families with school age children, and nutrition information. We serve the only two towns in the county, Fort Davis and Valentine. Neither of the two ISDs have school cafeterias and provide no free lunch programs. Over 45% of the school children enrolled live in families who depend on the Pantry for supplemental foods and school lunch foods. In 2014, the Pantry instituted Healthy Food, Healthy Lives, a initiative that emphasizes providing the healthiest foods available from the West Texas Food Bank, local grocers and other donations. Pantry locations in Fort Davis and Valentine are “choice” pantries with shelves stocked with food so individuals are able to choose the foods they and their families want to eat, rather than pre-selected foods. We also provide frozen meat, fish and poultry and fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables purchased from the Food Bank and other sources. For more information, please call.
